'Til Monday: Donut Lessons

While standing in front of a donut case last Sunday with three children who excitedly announced their picks and fought over their choices, I started losing my patience.  At some point I realized  there was someone waiting behind us, so I quickly motioned my kids out of the way without actually accomplishing what we set out to do that morning:  to get donuts for breakfast.   The man kindly said:  "Take your time, enjoy your children and the moment.  My youngest just left for college and one doesn't realize how quickly they grow up until they're gone."   I've heard this said before but for some reason the message really resonated with me that morning.  Maybe because it came from a man or maybe because our move has me feeling sentimental,  either way,  it was a true, strong statement.  With our twins entering 1st grade and Zoe in kindergarten,  childhood days are fleeting and I don't want to miss, forget or regret any times spent together.  So here's to living in the moment and eating lots and lots of donuts!

If you're a donut lover (like us) and a baker (unlike me) try baking these or these.  Enjoy!

'Til Monday: A Weekend To Remember.

Today marks the first weekend of summer and the last weekend spent in our Cambridge home. With just a few days left before the movers arrive, we have lots to get done, but what we want most is to enjoy the time left with friends and with the house that has meant so much to us.  I'll continue to organize and pack for the month of travel ahead still hoping to cross off a few more items on my Farewell, New England list.   Time has been flying by, and I now feel the list may not see completion, and strangely enough, I'm fine with that.   I don't want to force our experiences,  but rather take happenstances that arrive our way with an open heart.   Like the one captured above in Cape Cod, a short trip the kids and I took during the week.   We set fish traps, drove on the beach and chased many a wave;  we lived a quintessential cape experience.

Many thanks to GM for a sharing her home and her love for the cape with us!

Tomorrow we're surprising the kids with another consummate New England experience.  Venture a guess on what it is?

'Til Monday: A Favorite Photo

This week's 'Til Monday image has always been a favorite.  It's hard to believe that the boys once sat perfectly on my hip while now they stand up to my waist.  They're finishing kindergarten and heading to 1st grade next year.   Time is flying, and with so much going on in our lives, I'm afraid of missing even the smallest of things they're up to.  I so look  forward to slowing down and not thinking about what's  next on my agenda, but just being in the moment with them.

Here's to a slow and present weekend!

'Til Monday: Rainy Days Are Good

Sometimes a rainy day is just what one needs to either slow down or get things done that were previously neglected.  Hubby and I are doing just that.  We're taking advantage of this very damp day to prep for our next Saturday's yard sale.  This rainy day task turned out to be quite a walk down memory lane.  Some of the stored boxes had not been opened since our move 5 years ago, others held photos, letters and memorabilia from past travels,  younger times and other homes.  The process was slow, both emotional and comical and we'll keep plugging along.

If you're not up to your knees in boxes, deep into a book you've been trying to finish, or tackling an overdue project, take a peek at some of my new favorite links and let me know what you think.
