Botanical Inspiration: The Flora Around Us

Lately I've been flooding my Instagram feed with images of the flora surrounding me.  Whether in my garden or while I'm out and about, I find botanical inspiration pretty much everywhere.  It could be in a dahlia color, the texture of a cactus or in the contrast of a particular plant grouping.  Take a look at a few recent favorites of mine and start noticing the flora around YOU.  Nature will reward you.

Out And About: Farmgirl Flowers

On a buying [botanicals] mission to the San Francisco Flower Market for an upcoming event, Natalia and I encountered Farmgirl Flowers by sheer chance.  Their stand, unlike others at the mart, is a full fledged studio composed of work tables, unique vessels and locally sourced vibrant botanicals.  Daily floral arrangements are artfully composed with seasonal materials, ultimately wrapped in burlap and delivered to businesses and residences throughout San Francisco via bicycles, remaining true to this company's mission:  simple, local and beautiful.   Not only has the owner and founder Christina Stembel realized her dream of  being an eco-conscious and affordable florist, she also created a super cool work environment for her talented employees.  Take a good look:

Pod Art

I've been dying to show you what my mother-in-law has been up to in her studio as of late.  There have been a few sneak peeks both here and here, but now I can actually bring you the 'big reveal'.  Natalia's love of nature's bounty and passion for earthy adornments are artfully joined in one-of-a-kind wall hanging compositions. By combining seed pods, feathers, semi-precious stones and other natural foraged elements she creates unique representations of what she likes to call "Pod Art".  Take a look:

I love the way she mixes textures and colors and brings glamour to her pieces by using glass, semi-precious stones and metals. If you're interested in commissioning one of her original wall hangings, please email debra@cocoonhome.com for details.
