California Style

Since last Friday's announcement of our upcoming move to California, I've been experiencing relief.  Knowing that our friends and family are now aware of the big changes ahead for us, I feel like I can begin 'California dreaming' (aka decorating).  I so love our current home but I'm excited about creating another look and feel for our new abode.  Not yet having bought a house on the west coast keeps the concepts very broad,  but I would love for it to be a mix of midcentury glamour and ethnic touches.  Call it bohemian chic.   Layered rugs, comfortable and eclectic furniture, gold accents and one of these for sure.

The chairs I recently spied at Reside [see below] would fit the look perfectly.  I'm seriously considering buying them for the house we don't own yet.  What do you think?

I received so many wonderful comments about our move.  Thank you all for  your well wishes and sharing in our excitement of it!

At Home: Owl Issues

During our latest trip to the DC area, a really good friend (the same one who found the big glammy thing) took me to the largest repurposed goods' store I've ever visited.  Perched high above aisles of clothing, home accessories and furniture, an owl painting caught my attention.  Upon learning that it was 50% off (after we had returned home), my friend purchased it for us.  It now hangs above our credenza, but I do wonder if it belongs there.  What do YOU think?!  Should it stay or should it go....?

At Home: Halloween Decorating With Glitter Bats

When I first saw this glittering bats garland in the West Elm store I knew it belonged on our manzanita branch.  Our spray painted branch hangs in our guest bathroom and is decorated as the seasons dictate.  It's an unexpected place for decorations but they're always well received.  Take a look at how our glittery bats add a little spooky atmosphere to the bath.  They also could make great Halloween party bag enclosures.  To see other  manzanita branches and ideas click here.
